Ten Gav
Supporting Israelis in Need

On Sunday evening, the 29th of the Hebrew month of Cheshvan, begins the Ethiopian Jewish holiday of Sigd. On Sigd, members of the Ethiopian Jewish community fast, recite psalms and celebrate the acceptance of the Torah. Observed exactly 50 days after Yom Kippur, according to Ethiopian Jewish tradition, it is also the date God first revealed himself to Moses. In honor of this upcoming holiday, we are supporting an organization that provides needed assistance to vulnerable populations in Israel. Righteous Crowd funds will specifically support the Ethiopian community.

Thank you to our friends at the Good People Fund for the introduction.

Read our interview below with Ten Gav Co-Founder and voluntary Co-Chairman, Naomi Brounstein.

Tell us more about Ten Gav.
We recognized on the one hand that Israel's poor [including the Ethiopian community] have vast needs that are not being met by existing services and infrastructures and on the other hand that there are many good people around the world who would like to help them but hesitate for different reasons. We created Ten Gav to assist needy Israelis by giving them basic needs as well as other goods and services to which they would otherwise not have access.

What has your organization's response been to COVID-19?
Ten Gav launched our CORONA Relief Fund in March of 2020 as a special fund to provide rent assistance for those at risk of losing their homes; computers for school children; tablets for the elderly and special needs communities; and assistance with school tuition for at-risk young adults.

Who or what has inspired you in the work that you are doing?
Many social workers around Israel, a great many of whom work under very difficult conditions, continue to inspire us with their professionalism, sensitivity and commitment to assisting their clients get ahead. They often tell us that Ten Gav is like "oxygen" for them. One told us, "We give our heart and souls to our work, but sometimes that is not enough. Sometimes you have to give a fridge, an oven, a computer or money to help pay for a course. Ten Gav gives me the backing to stand tall across from our clients and say that I am here to help."
