CHALLAH FOR HUNGER AND EMMA’S TORCH

This month, we are donating to two different organizations and hope that you will join us in supporting them. Links to donate are included below.

Organization #1: Challah for Hunger

Challah for Hunger builds communities inspired and equipped to fight hunger. Challah for Hunger trains student leaders to bring a variety of solutions to their campuses through philanthropy, advocacy, and community building.

The Reason: No student should have to choose between food and their education. At least 3 million college students are food insecure. Many young people are graduating high school during this season and then going off to college in the fall - there will be those who will experience greater food insecurity and others who will work to raise funds and awareness. Please spread the word about Challah for Hunger to college students who you know!

The Big Idea: Founded in 2004 at Scripps College, Challah for Hunger initially had college students at that campus baking challah together and selling it to fellow students to raise funds for social justice issues. Today, there are 80+ chapters around the world raising funds as well as awareness of food insecurity. Challah for Hunger supports students to develop solutions to end student hunger.

Organization #2: Emma’s Torch

Emma’s Torch is a NYC-based nonprofit social enterprise providing culinary training and job placement services to refugees, asylees, and survivors of human trafficking.

The Reason: June 20th is World Refugee Day. This month, thanks to a generous donor, all donations to Emma’s Torch up to $25,000 will be matched! All donations, no matter how big or how small, will be doubled. That also means YOUR impact will be doubled helping support more refugees TO BEGIN building new careers.

The Big Idea: For refugees coming to America, one of the hardest parts of the transition can be finding a new job. A job is important for more than just a paycheck. It is a chance to meet new people, practice language skills, and find a sense of fulfillment and self-worth after what can be a jarring and disorienting move. Enter Emma’s Torch, founded in 2016, which provides the training and job placement. Righteous Crowd has previously supported Emma's Torch.  Read the previous interview with founder and executive director Kerry Brodie.
